MY CORONATION

2024

3 x 59,2 x 84,4 x 12 cm

The works consist of three Backlight Prints mounted on aluminum light boxes with a convex curved form for wall mounting and an anti-reflective finish.

The prints are digital collages, where I have reworked my own X-rays with colors and digital stencils. By combining the clinically objective with the personal and pop-cultural, I explore the intersection of the disabled body and the aesthetics of youth within an otherwise sterile, medical context.

In my work, my disabled body is crowned. The metal implant, visible in two of the X-rays, is a direct result of breaking my back—it is not a burden but an integral part of my body. The artwork is understood as a ceremonial crowning in steel. By incorporating elements from pop culture, I introduce a new layer of identity and self-representation to the depiction of my disabled body.
